Why We Don't Battle Before Catching Pokemon

Come Join My Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/OpachiiO/

We can thank Pokemon's mascot Pikachu for allowing us to catch Pokemon in Pokemon Go without the hassle of battling them first. I personally liked that part of encountering and catching Pokemon but it's kool... it's kool. This isn't a confirmed easter egg, though if Niantic included this scene from the anime into the game, it would be an easter egg.

If you haven't watched the anime, then hold up before reading the rest of this post. It may contain spoilers. If you don't wish to watch the anime, and or spoilers don't matter to you, then go right ahead and continue reading.

This scene begins with Ash stumbling upon everyone's "favorite" Pokemon to catch, Pidgey. Ash demands Pikachu to attack, which instead of listening to his trainer, Pikachu decides to find itself a limb to climb on and lay down. Ash, being the stubborn trainer he is, decided he doesn't need Pikachu's help, he can just catch the famous Pokemon by simply throwing a Pokeball at it.

This can also be done in the games; not weakening a Pokemon before trying to catch it. Ash isn't the only stubborn master. It is more plausible that this feature was put in the game to speed gameplay up a bit. The main objective is to "catch'em all". But... it's more fun to believe this was an easter egg intended to be found. Niantic confirmed a while ago, there were still several unfound easter eggs within the coding. I'm unsure of how to find out for sure, we all know Niantic won't respond, but I may have found other easter eggs in the game, so I will be covering what I have found over the next few days.

One thing that would have been nice for Niantic to do; like in the first episode of the anime, Ask doesn't catch Pidgey and it ends up fleeing. Did Ash lose his Pokeball? No! But It's okay that's not a very important feature. Who knows maybe you don't lose a Pokeball after a Pidgey flees, I sure haven't been paying attention to that.

Get Accuracy Bonus Throws Everytime

Come Join My Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/OpachiiO/

In one of my latest posts, I covered how to get the accuracy "Nice" throw every time. Though many disbelieved I wouldn't cover how to get great and excellent throws, and just leave it at the "Nice" Bonus. Well, the truth is, I still need to collect data for the other bonuses and wasn't expecting to come across them both as fast as I did. I had an idea on how to get a Great throw often, but why settle for that when I can say I figured out how to get Excellent throws often. Getting an excellent throw is still hard to do, even after knowing how it's done.

Many believe it all matters on how big the catch circle is, though that stands true, that isn't everything needed in order to get a bonus throw. The key to getting a bonus every time relies on not only the circle but also rather or not the ball lands in the catch circle, which is why it is so hard to get excellent throws unless you have mastered this technique. I'm still unsure rather the button of the ball needs to be facing the Pokemon, the main reason why is it doesn't seem to matter when I try for a "Nice" throw, but great and excellent it seems to matter, or I could just be barely missing the hit box for the accuracies.

In the pictures below shows about where the catch circles need to be. Nice seems to be the most accurate screenshot of them all, but it's hard to time the delay just right. For both great and excellent, the circles need to be a tad bit smaller (or so I believe.) After you get the hang of accurate throws, you can then master the curve ball for the slightly increased catch rate alongside the accurate boost. Not to mention the extra experience given could boost the rate you level.

The "L" throw people keep talking about (where you drag your Pokeball to either side of the screen.) seems to make it easier to throw curve balls, and maybe that's why it was implemented in the game. Hope these tips are as helpful for you as they are me, my family, and friends.

How to Get a "Nice" Throw Every time!

I'm unsure if this is a glitch or if it's programmed into the game, either way, I got Nice throws left and right. Until I figured out why now I get the accuracy bonus almost every time I go to catch a Pokemon. The times I don't however, are because the circle that grows and shrinks isn't the right size. Yes, that's right, the key to getting a nice throw all depends on the size of the ring indicating the difficulty of the catch rate. Not only that but did you know that the smaller the circle the better chance you have of catching a Pokemon?

Unfortunately, in this case, you want the circle to be the largest it can get. I have noticed that if it's just below the white catch frame circle then you still have a fairly high chance of getting the "Nice" throw, but not every time, like when the circle is on the catch frames shown in the picture above. I know it doesn't show that I got a nice throw, but try to get that screenshot was hard enough, trying to make sure everything was set.

Either way, this may take a bit of practice, kind of like getting the curveball down (I still haven't mastered the curveball). If you are able to time things right when you throw curveballs, then this little trick will help you get not only a 10 extra experience for each catch but 20 extra points. It may not be much, but after level 20 any little experience is well worth it. Let me know if you are able to get nice throws left and right after reading this... friends are amused with me able to do this. Don't forget that curveballs increase the catch rate and so do accuracy throws, being guaranteed a nice throw should surely help in harder catches.

Will This Idea Fix the Lack of Attention in Rural Areas?

As the majority of the player base knows, Pokestops are sparse for those who live in more rural areas of the world. Unfortunately, the closest city near me that has a decent amount of stops is about 45-minute drive.  The most stops in a small town that are somewhat close to each other is 6, so keeping enough Pokeballs tends to be hard for those who don't get out a lot rather they just don't have the time, or they just don't want to battle the heat getting maybe 20 Pokeballs  within the 30-minute walk between the stops.

There is a solution, though, it is more of something that could be added in the game rather than something that will be added. Not only will it help rural players, but it is another thing to feel nostalgic about while playing the most popular video game franchise. Some may have forgotten, but for one who rather enjoyed the concept I haven't let this feature in the games slip my mind, in fact, when the game first released this was the first feature I looked for.

After capturing 30 Pokemon and talking to one of Professor Oak's aides found in a building on route 11, you will obtain an itemfinder. This feature allowed players to find hidden items within the game, most of the time being a various amount of berries and other health improving items, you also had a chance of getting somewhat rare items as well, such as a rare candy.

How could something like this be added in Pokemon Go? Well, there are a few different ways. One way is while Pokestops are common for larger towns and highly populated areas, why not make it so the itemfinder, while able to be used in such places, more viable for rural areas. How it could work is the items will spawn so far away from Pokestops, allowing it to be more common for rural areas and less for higher populated areas. To balance things out a bit more, it would have a charge of its own which while walking will charge the itemfinder up.

Once fully charged you would then be able to only gather so many items, making it more of a judgement on what items to pick up. How do you know where items are? Like the radius that pings for Pokemon and Pokestop range, there could be a 3rd ping that works for items that is a little larger than the red ring for Pokemon. When in range for an item, it will flash one of three colors. Whiteish blue for common, Orangish yellow for uncommon and a deep red for rares (like the ranges in the game and it will have team colors.)

How the items could work in the game could be something in a sense like how eggs work. 2km are common, 5km are uncommon and 10km are rare, only for items it would work a bit different. Each color flash would have its own unique rarity chain.

White Flashes:
Common- Pokeballs, Potions, Revives
Uncommon- Greatballs, Super Potions (level 12), Razzberries, 1-2 Pokeballs, 1-2 Potions, 1-2 Revives
Rare- UltraBall, Hyper Potion (level 20), 1 Pokecoin, 1-2 Razzberries, 1-2 Greatballs, 2-3 Pokeballs, 2-3 Potions, 2-3 Revives

Orange Flashes:
Common- 2 Pokeballs, 2 Potions, 2 Revives, Greatball, Razzberry, Super Potion
Uncommon- 1-2 Greatballs, 1-2 Razzberries, Ultraball, Hyper Potion
Rare- 3-5 Pokeballs, 2-3 Greatballs, 2-3 Super Potions, 2-3 Revives, 2-3 Razzberries 1-2 Ultraballs, 2-3 Pokecoins, 1-2 Hyper Potions

Red Flashes:
Common- Ultraball, Hyper Potion, Revive, 2-3 Greatballs, 2-3 Razzberries, 5 Pokeballs,
Uncommon-  1-2 Ultraballs, 3-5 Greatballs, 2-4 Razzberries, 4-9 Pokeballs, 4-9 Potions, 4-9 revives
Rare- 2-3 Ultraballs ,4-5 Pokecoins, 10 Pokeballs, 5 Greatballs, 10 Revives, 10 Potions, 5 Super Potions, 5 Razzberries, 2-3 Hyper Potions, Max Potion, Max revive

Green Flashes:
Ultra Rare- Egg Incubator, Lure, Lucky egg, Insense, 20 Pokeballs, 10 Greatballs, 5 Ultraballs, 10-15 Pokecoins

Keep in mind these are just quantities I came up with as an example of how things could work. What happens if people abuse the item finder? Well, there are a few things that can prevent that. First of all the items won't show up unless you charge the item finder; .5km will be enough for 1 item ping. I know it wont be hard to walk/drive a good 10-20km in a day, but one if you think about it that would only be enough for 40 items more depending on how long you are out, but not much. There would also be a charge cap that depends on your level. For every 5 levels is rewarded 10 more charges to your cap.

Though that won't be the only thing limited by your level. With the chance for level 12 items being greater with the Orange light, the light could be unlocked once you hit level 12 and the same with the level 20 unlocked rewards and the red flash. The green however could be unlocked once the player hits level 25-30. Why? This wouls still allow Niantic to profit from the game as not only would the green light be super rare, but it will be limited to those who actually play the game, and with to continue even further. Not only that, but it would show that Niantic truly cares about the long term/ true trainers that wish to "catch 'em all".

How the itemfinding system will work for those who may not know, is you have a chance of only finding 1 type of item, so if you found and item you would only be able to obtain that item only, some with a chance of a greater quantity.

Pokemon Hotspot: River Greenway Bluffton Indiana

Walking the River Greenway in Bluffton Indiana with my mom, brother, and a friend, This is what we came across. I live in a more rural area than most people so to most this probably isn't a whole lot, but to me, this was like winning the lottery. If you live around the area then this spot is differentially worth checking out. There aren't any Pokestops (yet) so I would come with a good 100 Pokeballs per hour you plan on walking... yes I went through over 100 Pokeballs within an hour.

I started from the beginning of the trail, which you can get to by turning east on the first road past Hardees, I walked for about 30 minutes and turned back around after reaching a red bridge. Walking that distance helped me hatch 5 2k eggs and 3 5k eggs within the hour. I also put 2 incenses up which I was lucky enough to get a Dratini off of.

Capture and Flee Rates

These rates are effected by your level, this is a list of the base catch and flee rates gathered from the game data. Pokemon with a 0% catch rate are believed to be gifts or rewards later in the future, though it doesn't explain why they have a flee rate. Perhaps this is where the theoretical master ball comes into play?

How to Quickly get Candies for Rare Pokemon

Pokemon Go Nests have been sought out by many users once they were discovered and there are even maps for some locations that have the nests pinned. While I was in Newport, I was lucky enough to experience not 1 but 3 nests! They were close to each other, though I wasn't close enough to the Dratini nest so that still remains a shadow in my Pokedex.
A Pokemon nest is basically where there is an unlimited amount of one type of Pokemon, A breeding ground if you want to get technical. How do you know if you have come across a nest? Well, typically there will be several of a Pokemon showing up on your nearby. It is better it just accidently find a nest because they are so sparse, it would take a redundant amount of time to find a nest by strictly searching for one.

Other Pokemon can and will still spawn in nests, but for the most part, nests can be treated like they are unwanted Pidgeys and Weedles, that's how fast the Pokemon spawn. Though if you are after Pokemon just for the Pokedex entry, then I can attest you won't be there long. I got 50 Doduo candies in about a half hour, catching other uncommon's and rares in between.

I don't know the actual locations, but doduo was at the aquarium and Dratini was on one of the bridges close to it. Walking from Newport to Cincinnati on the foot bridge, the nest was to the left near the other bridge I believe you get to the aquarium on. If anyone has exact locations feel free to let me know so I can add them for others.

Changes:
As of today, 7-29-2016 nests have been changed. The Pokemon that used to inhabit a nest now have switched. To check out more information here is a list of Pokemon Nest Switches. Dratini nests now, sadly spawn eevees. I feel like that was a bit of a slap to every Pokemon Go player. Make a well liked/ strong Pokemon into well liked/ common Pokemon everyone has 100s of. Doduos nests however, now spawn Ponytas. Which where I'm from seems to be a fair trade (I have yet to see either in my area). Zubats... no one cares about them obviously, either I didn't find an actual nest because there aren't any Zubat nests, or Niantic has the same appeal to them as the average player does.

  3. 3000
  4. 4000

  8. 8000
  9. 9000
  10. 10,000
  11. 10,000
  12. 10,000
  13. 10,000
  14. 15,000
  15. 20,000
  16. 20,000

  19. 25,000
  20. 25,000
  21. 50,000
  22. 75,000
  23. 100,000
  24. 125,000
  25. 150,000
  26. 190,000
The total amount of Experience needed to get from level 1 to level 26 is 900,000. I have heard of people gaining 100,000 experience per hour, more than likely with lucky eggs. With that being said if you take the time to grind the levels out, you can easily hit level 26 within 9 hours.

You can pick your team; Instinct, Valor, or Mistic at level 5 which is the level you unlock Gyms Potions and Revives. Potions heal the any Pokemon for 20 hitpoints and revives will heal a fainted Pokemon for half their hitpoints. At level 8 you unlock Razz Berries which are used to increase the capture rate of Pokemon and hold an importance when you are a higher level. Super Potions which heal any Pokemon for 50 hitpoints are unlocked at level 10. Great balls slightly increase the catch rate of any Pokemon can be obtained at level 12. Hyper potions heal 200 hitpoints of any Pokemon, which most Pokemon will have below 200 Hitpoints until you get higher CP Pokemon. Ultra ball increase the capture rate even more than the great ball and can be found at level 20. Max potions heal all the hitpoints of any Pokemon and can get gotten at level 25. Max revives fully revive any fainted Pokemon and this item is rewarded to you for hitting level 30.

The level cap is said to be level 40 but rewards up to level 30 is all the information I can find. I have heard that it takes a total of 20,000,000 Experience to get from level 1 to level 40. From 30-31 I believe was 500,000 ot 1,000,000 experience so a huge jump between the levels meaning it will take a while to get to the level cap. At 100,000 experience per hour it will take 200 hours to get the experience needed to hit level 40, which will obviously take a few months.

Catch Pokemon and Save Poke Balls

Many of my friends wonder how I'm up to par with them, yet I have a large sum of Poke Balls, even though I live out in the middle of nowhere that has 1 Pokestop. It's simple actually, I do go to town often to walk around and hit up the Pokestops there, but that isn't how or why I have so many Poke Balls filling up my; what I thought to be plenty, inventory storage. I often find myself struggling to find the item I need to delete just so I can continue to spin. It's difficult actually because I have a few revives and potions maybe 20-30 in total, so it wouldn't be wise to get rid of any more of those. Meaning I'm left with getting rid of either the starting Poke Balls or Razz Berries, which I have 100 of. I doubt I need that many Berries but you never know what you will come across.

So this is what to do if you want to stress over a full inventory or rest relaxed knowing that you are stocked up on Poke Balls from here on out.
Look at the Pokemon's CP, if it is below 100 then most of the time you can just catch it with 1 normal Poke Ball without throwing any Razz Berries in for the rescue. If it is between 100-200 expect to through 2-3 normal Poke Balls without a Razz Berry, and if it is above 200 CP then you should feed the Pokemon a Razz Berry unless you are feeling risky. Note how I say how many Poke Balls it should take to catch the Pokemon, this is because; unless it is a rare Pokemon, I will run from the encounter and be on my merry way.

When it comes to rarer Pokemon I will normally feed it a Razz Berry then throw as many Poke Balls as it takes to catch it, but that's only if I need the candies for an evolution I have yet to register in my Pokedex. The reason you should be catching every Pokemon you come across is because you've gotta catch'em all, duh; but no the reason is you need to save candies for evolutions for faster leveling.

UI Tips and Tricks

This will be a fairly short post as I don't know if there are more UI shortcuts or not. I only know of 2, let me know if there are more!

So for the first one, when you click the Pokeball to go to your menu options, instead of clicking on the button you want, you can just tap and hold/slide your finger across to the button you want. Rather or not it's faster, it's all up to the users preference. Personally, I like being able to slide and choose the option I want, but others may not like it.

The second UI shortcut is a simple double tap when you're on the map. What this will do then is allow you to slide up and down to zoom in and out; easy zoom out for shotgun. You hold on the second tap. I found this out trying to quickly tap a Pokemon so I could hopefully get it. Instead the map zoomed out -.-

This isn't much of a short cut, and many may already know, but to easily move the camera around so you can see if anything pops up on the sides or behind you, just move your finger up and down to adjust the camera. When I first started I kept moving my finger in a circular motion, making it hard and frustrating to see things.

Increased Rare Spawn in Large Groups

Rumor has it, when playing Pokemon Go in a large group, rarer Pokemon spawn a bit more frequent. Skepticism between players grew, but I believe I can confirm this theory. I have sat at these 2 Pokestops several times for a few hours each time. The normal amount of rares I came across with lures is maybe 2 or 3. Well there was a group of maybe 20-25 people setting there just the other night. Everything but the Onix and Pikachu I caught while I was there; about 2 hours.

Warren Indiana Pokestops

Wabash Indiana, Paradise Springs Pokestops

A 45-minute drive for me; a friend and I decided we would head into Wabash with my mom; while she took care of my grandma, my friend and I were dropped off at the River Springs Park, and walked around for a good two hours, give or take. We had seen a Meowth there as well but so it be told our games wouldn't load.
There was a total of 7 stops at the park, but we made a small route that hit 6 of the 7. Along with the 7 stops there are 2 gyms as well. Walking the 2 hours got us both around 12,000 experience, and roughly 150-200 pokeballs (we were stalking up on Pidgeys and Weedles. This would be a good spot for a group of friends to set up lures on the 6 stops, and go to town hatching eggs, gathering pokeballs, decent experience gain, and a load of fun.

Battling Gyms Like a Champ

Scrolling through the reddit feed a few days ago, I came across a post titled "How to easily take down any gym". I have yet to get good at dodging, but perhaps this tip will be helpful to most others. Basically, the author of this post carefully watched his opponents attacks and came up with a theory to win battles without losing any hit points, in a numbered list from 1-9.

Keep in mind I didn't create this theory, someone else by the pseudonym Zmedi off reddit did, I highlt recommend that you check the link above out for a more detailed article.

  1. The first time an opponent appears, it attacks twice. So dodge twice first: flash dodge flash dodge, then attack.
  2. If the server glitches/lags, you can take damage
  3. You can safely get in one quick attack before the next flash - sometimes you can get two (flash dodge, attack, attack, flashdodge, attack, attack...repeat).
  4. You are vulnerable after using a special attack because you can't immediately dodge - don't use them unless you need to.
  5. You're up against the clock. If your 800CP is against a 1400CP, you can avoid taking damage, but you may not be able to whittle down their health in time.
  6. You can cut through Pokemon within +/- 200CP of your attacker like butter (without losing health)
  7. You get a lot of xp at no cost for taking down high level gyms, and it's fun! (although it does take a while)
  8. It is way more fun than spamming quick attack and it'll save you a TON of revive and health potions.
  9. Bonus: you can really annoy the 'super-gyms' when you take them down by yourself!

Getting Missed Pokeballs Back

This is a nice little tip I learned from someone I work with. If you miss the Pokemon you are trying to catch; the ball has to completely miss, you have a "chance" of getting the ball back if you tap on the ball fast enough; tapping repeatedly until you can throw again normally helps. I put parentheses around chance because I'm unsure if this is just a glitch, or if it was meant to be in the game. Anyways while testing this I noticed I don't get the ball back everytime, maybe the game isn't registering that I tapped the ball, or maybe it is meant to be a chance.

Could this just simply be a glitch? I noticed when I do get the ball back, it doesn't show my ball count under the right side of the ball. It could be that you are tapping and the game isn't sure of what to do so you get a "free" ball. Let me know what you think, is this just a glitch or is there really a chance to save a wasted ball?
