Why We Don't Battle Before Catching Pokemon

We can thank Pokemon's mascot Pikachu for allowing us to catch Pokemon in Pokemon Go without the hassle of battling them first. I personally liked that part of encountering and catching Pokemon but it's kool... it's kool. This isn't a confirmed easter egg, though if Niantic included this scene from the anime into the game, it would be an easter egg. 

If you haven't watched the anime, then hold up before reading the rest of this post. It may contain spoilers. If you don't wish to watch the anime, and or spoilers don't matter to you, then go right ahead and continue reading.  

This scene begins with Ash stumbling upon everyone's "favorite" Pokemon to catch, Pidgey. Ash demands Pikachu to attack, which instead of listening to his trainer, Pikachu decides to find itself a limb to climb on and lay down. Ash, being the stubborn trainer he is, decided he doesn't need Pikachu's help, he can just catch the famous Pokemon by simply throwing a Pokeball at it.



This can also be done in the games; not weakening a Pokemon before trying to catch it. Ash isn't the only stubborn master. It is more plausible that this feature was put in the game to speed gameplay up a bit. The main objective is to "catch'em all". But... it's more fun to believe this was an easter egg intended to be found. Niantic confirmed a while ago, there were still several unfound easter eggs within the coding. I'm unsure of how to find out for sure, we all know Niantic won't respond, but I may have found other easter eggs in the game, so I will be covering what I have found over the next few days.

One thing that would have been nice for Niantic to do; like in the first episode of the anime, Ask doesn't catch Pidgey and it ends up fleeing. Did Ash lose his Pokeball? No! But It's okay that's not a very important feature. Who knows maybe you don't lose a Pokeball after a Pidgey flees, I sure haven't been paying attention to that. 

The Problem with Catching A Ditto

Ditto, the Pokemon the had more theories of how the critter would be introduced into the game. Maybe it was already in the game? Maybe it will be a regional Pokemon? The beginning of Thanksgiving update proved us all wrong. The Pokemon community was in an uproar, everyone thought pictures were fake, or that they had caught the very first ditto; I believed that myself too, there wasn't anything about people catching Dittos when I did, which was on its release date.

It all began when my mom was trying to catch a Rattata for her "Youngster" achievement. She was outside with my brother at the time, showing him all the Christmas lights; he was on break from college. Not paying attention to her phone until they return inside, she noticed that it was a Ditto, nor a Rattata.

A few days go where we don't catch any around our house, though we wasted several Pokeballs in the process. In the photos above, you will see a Ditto and Pidgey. I bet you can't tell which is which, without looking at the caption. 

In the Pokemon Snap game, to get a Ditto we have to "disturb" a Bulbasaur before it will finally transform back into its original form. In the anime, it's first seen not able to fully copy Pokemon, and in the other Nintendo games, it's just itself, meaning that in all the other Pokemon games, Ditto can clearly be seen as Ditto, or abused into showing it's true form before any Pokeballs are "wasted". 

A simple tap frenzy on the confirmed Ditto disguises would be something interest to add, that way People don't have to participate in Niantic's money thirst scheme, buying Pokeballs because stops no longer drop many, and now trying to catch a Pokemon that might not actually be there.

Pokemon Hotspot: River Greenway Bluffton Indiana

Walking the River Greenway in Bluffton Indiana with my mom, brother, and a friend, This is what we came across. I live in a more rural area than most people so to most this probably isn't a whole lot, but to me, this was like winning the lottery. If you live around the area then this spot is differentially worth checking out. There aren't any Pokestops (yet) so I would come with a good 100 Pokeballs per hour you plan on walking... yes I went through over 100 Pokeballs within an hour. 

I started from the beginning of the trail, which you can get to by turning east on the first road past Hardees, I walked for about 30 minutes and turned back around after reaching a red bridge. Walking that distance helped me hatch 5 2k eggs and 3 5k eggs within the hour. I also put 2 incenses up which I was lucky enough to get a Dratini off of. 

Theories About Finding Ditto

Theory From the anime: 

This theory of them all seems to be the most believed of them all. The anime "Ditto's Mysterious Mansion" which is the 36th episode reveals Ditto. Ditto and it's trainer Duplica are masters of disguises. Starting off Ditto is first seen as a Pikachu, though is noticeable different from Ashes because it's eyes and mouth didn't transform. When the 2 trainers battled, Ditto transforms into Ashes Bulbasaur, again with the missing facial features.

Team Rocket, of course, intrudes on the trainers later on in the episode, though they weren't there for Pikachu, they were after Duplica's  Ditto with the intention of forcing Ditto to evolve into a Dragonair. After a few attempts, Team Rockets deems the Pokemon is useless, though transforms into  Meowth, again it's face didn't transform. Team Rocket not happy with that, they threaten the poor thing to make its face look like Meowths, and it worked. 

Ditto transformed into 3 different Pokemon in the Anime, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Meowth. Pikachu and Bulbasaur's transformation both had the Ditto facial features, while Meowth's did at first, but later on Ditto finally got the whole transforming technique down. The theory is there will be an encounterable Pokemon with Ditto's face which will then transform back into its original form somehow. Some believe the only Pokemon you will find this from are Pikachu and Bulbasaur, though there hasn't been much talk over Meowth.

Regional Pokemon Theory: 

Many of us know that Ditto is a Mew experiment gone wrong. Ditto then escapes or is released into the jungles of South America. I am unsure if Niantic plans on releasing the game in South America, but if they do then it would make sense why Ditto has a catch rate but has yet to be caught. Making Ditto regional Pokemon overall makes the most sense, mostly because no one has solved the "easter egg" yet and everything or just about everything has been done to try and find this unique Pokemon.

Yes Ditto has been determined and it is said to have a catch rate, doesn't mean that it is currently catchable. Not knowing what the catch rate is, or the other regional Pokemon's catch rates, they more than likely will be similar. Why can't Ditto be hatched from 5k eggs like the other 4 regional Pokemon? It isn't in the game yet, it would only make sense to give South America a regional exclusive Pokemon, but that can't be done, unless it's Ditto.

Don't know how to implement it:

Another less common theory is, the developers may not know how to put the Pokemon in the game. When you think about it, how would a Ditto work when dueling other players when the feature is added to the game or taking over/defending gyms. The Pokemon of course, would transform and assumption is that Ditto would know the opposing Pokemon's move set. 

There is a glitch in the game now after the recent update, not many have brought to the conclusion could they be testing or could the coding for Ditto's transform somehow got in the game? The glitch happens after catching a Pokemon, you could be catching a Pikachu one second and the next after it's been caught it could be a Weedle, or it could be a Dragonite. The Pokemon "transforms" into something other than the actual Pokemon. 

Pokemon CP Calculation

 Ever wonder what your Pokemon's CP will end up at when you evolve it? You can use this Evolution Calculator to give you the average CP of a given Pokemon. It only works for evolving that I know of. If you are looking for something that gives the average CP when powering up then a spreadsheet like this one is all I see over Power up CP. I plan on creating a spreadsheet of my own, but don't have enough rare spawns to cover them. Mostly the commons with a few uncommon here and there.

What makes calculating your CP useful? There have been several times where I and other people have expected a decent gain of CP when we evolved a Pokemon that took us forever to get the candies for, and it turns out it's still not over 1000 CP. For example, a 550 Eevee will get you over 1000 CP eeveelution, a 500 Bellsprout only got me an 800 Weepingbell. 

If you are like me and don't really care about the CP of Pokemon you yet need to fill out the Pokedex then just for fun you can use this calculator just to see if you will get a Pokemon worth using in future gym battles. 

Here is a list of the Pokemon a can evolve now, but I'm waiting to use a lucky egg.

Staryu - CP 479 =  1135 Starmie

Squirtle - CP 428 = 749 Warturtle

Meowth - CP 422 = 928 Persian

Shellder - CP 410 = 1058 Cloyster

Pikachu - CP 380 =  935 Raichu

Doduo - CP 373 =  821 Dotrio

Horsea - CP 257 = 563 Seadra

Keep in mind all these calculations are based on the average CP you will receive when evolving a Pokemon. You may get something better than what is calculated or you may get something worse than what it calculated, but it shouldn't be a huge difference. If you have a Pokemon you expect to get over 1000 and it shows it's barely over the mark, it may be in the high 900s. I advise to NOT power up (Save your Stardust), but to wait until you find a better wild Pokemon of your choosing that meets your expectations.

Pokemon Go Easter Eggs

Some of these are yet to be confirmed and may not be game altering like the Eeveelution easter egg.

Starting with Pikachu - If you are a new player or start a new account and don't like the starting Pokemon choices, just walk away from the starters a few times and you can start with a Pikachu!

Eeveelutions - You can nickname an eevee to force them to evolve into the evolution you want/need. Rainer - Vaporeon, Pyro - Flareon, Sparky - Jolteon

HTML Tags - You can change the appearance of a Pokemon's name by inserting <> before the name and </> after. The only 2 I know of are bold and italicize. <b> </b> Bold, <i> </i> italicize.

Pikachu voice - If you have a Pikachu on you, click it so it pulls up its statistics. You need to have your sound on for this but tap on Pikachu and he/she will speak. (like in the Anime)

Pokemon animations - Just like the Pikachu easter egg, only without sounds. Each and every Pokemon has some kind of animation.

Swipe method Boarder colors - If you use the swipe method, pay attention to the border colors when you hover over an option. The colors are yellow, red, blue, and purple. Zapdos, Moltras, Articuno, and Mewtwo.

Clefairy - Clefairys may appear more often the day before and after a full moon, this one hasn't been verified but makes sense if you've watched the anime.

Chancy - Chancy's show up more around health care institutes.

Increased Rare Spawn in Large Groups

Rumor has it, when playing Pokemon Go in a large group, rarer Pokemon spawn a bit more frequent. Skepticism between players grew, but I believe I can confirm this theory. I have sat at these 2 Pokestops several times for a few hours each time. The normal amount of rares I came across with lures is maybe 2 or 3. Well there was a group of maybe 20-25 people setting there just the other night. Everything but the Onix and Pikachu I caught while I was there; about 2 hours.

I wasn't expecting to do another post over what I caught for a while, but today seemed to be a bit better than yesterday... I didn't know I could get so lucky.
